Delivering Goods? See What Your Auto Policy Delivers.
There are clear dos and don’ts regarding how a private passenger auto can be used when it’s covered under a Massachusetts personal auto policy.
If you repair furniture and occasionally use your car to drop off a rocking chair at a client’s home, that’s an allowable use. If you’re a realtor or salesman, and you travel from location to location with your personal auto, your vehicle should be classified as “business use”; increase your liability limits if you take clients along for the rides.
However, if your work is centered around making deliveries of goods, services—or people—you need to have a commercial policy. A personal auto policy will exclude coverage for these business uses.
