Are You Ready For Summer Fun?
I love this time of year - the flowers are in bloom, the days are long, and my backyard is ready for summer fun. Although my summer plans include a little golf, and maybe a beach getaway here and there, I look forward to many relaxing gatherings with family and friends right at home.
While the home is a great place to enjoy summer nights, I can clearly remember a few times that weren't so carefree.
I spent a month in traction at Cooley Dickinson Hospital after crashing my neighbor's Honda dirt bike when I was 10 years old. Many years later, I took my daughter to the same hospital for a broken leg after an accident on our trampoline (yes, the insurance company made me take it down).
Accidents do happen, and it's important to know how your insurance will respond.
The good news is that your homeowner's policy will cover most of the accidents that you might be held responsible for. Accidents involving swimming pools, backyard baseball games, swing sets and monkey bars are covered if you are sued for a negligent act.
Your homeowner's policy also provides protection from most accidents that occur away from your home. I take some comfort from this when I am on the golf course (FORE!).
However, there are exceptions to this rule. If you own a dirt bike, ATV, boat or snowmobile, it is important to know if you need another policy. Call us if you have questions.
If you go on a camping trip or rent a summer cottage, your belongings are still covered under your homeowner's policy. Your personal property is covered worldwide, but it is still subject to your policy deductible if you need to make a claim.
Have a fun, restful and safe summer doing the things you enjoy most during this time of year. If you have any questions about what your homeowner's policy covers, please feel free to call the office at 413.586.0111 and we'll clarify it for you.
