Owning a house comes with more than just a mortgage payment. You also have to pay for utilities, property taxes, and home insurance in MA. Parents often get frustrated when the residence they struggle to maintain is messed up by their troublesome children. Is it time to stop picking up the toys, clothes, and trash they leave all over the place and show them how to respect you and your home? Here are some tips on getting the kids to embrace neatness.

  • Don’t expect your kids to do the impossible. For example, do you want your kids to put away their laundry? Then make sure the dresser for their clothes is small enough for them to open alone.
  • Make cleaning fun! At the end of each day, help children clean up their mess by turning it into a game. One way to do this is to use the toy boxes as goals and each person who can throw a toy in without missing gets a point.
  • Assign chores as well as a time to do. List these rules on a piece of poster board on the back of their doors until they get used to them.
  • Remember, it’s important to be consistent so that kids get into the habit of doing their chores.

With a clean and tidy home, you’ll not only reduce the amount of work you have to do, you’ll also be reducing the risk that you or a guest in your home will trip on a toy and sustain an injury.

Not sure the kids will take to the new habit of tidiness? Perhaps it’s time to take out some disability coverage for yourself and make sure you have plenty of liability cover for guest injuries on your home insurance in MA!
