Is Your Driving Getting Worse as You Get Older?

The traffic you drive through every day is made up of a mixture of good drivers, bad drivers, new drivers, and veteran drivers. This is one of the reasons Mass auto insurance is a necessity. As we become more experienced it can be easy to forget some of the basic safety precautions we may have taken when we remembered our driving instructor’s words. Here are some of the things your driving instructor probably told you all those years ago.

- You need to focus by paying attention to the traffic around you. Frequently check your mirrors and try to anticipate what other drivers are going to do.

- Secondly, if you see someone that is speeding or driving aggressively, let them pass by. Trying to ‘make a point’ can lead to dangerous circumstances for you and other drivers.

- Be sure to use your turn signals at all times. Notify drivers of lane changes of your intent to turn onto another street. Do not wait until the last minute to put on your signal.

- Do not try to ‘beat the lights’. When the light turns yellow and you have enough time to stop safely, then stop. You endanger everyone else when you floor it to rush through the intersection.

- Lastly, remember to maintain a safe distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. You should always keep at least 3 - 4 seconds distance between your car and the one in front of you – that way if the vehicle ahead of you suddenly stops, you’ll have more time to avoid a collision.

Stay safe this holiday season and make sure you have your Mass auto insurance in place.  In the event of an accident, this can protect you from having to pay out large amounts of money.
